Urbanites and the Urban in the ‚Countryside‘
Already watched: Pilot, S01, 09×02, 09×03. As well as information that I have already compiled.
Note: There isn’t much to discover just yet – essays will be published gradually from late May. Until autumn, think of this more as a gateway than a library.

Angela Wentworth: „Because I don‘t like the fete. It just fills the village up with people from the Causton estate. It‘s noisy and dirty.“ (02×01: Death‘s Shadow)
Agnes Sampson: „Old buildings being bashed down and converted for weekenders who‘ll pay double the market value, and that just pushes the prices up and forces the real villagers out.“ (02×01: Death‘s Shadow)
Leslie Flux is annoyed that the village image of Midsomer Newton is being spoilt by “hideous conservatories” and “hacienda-style bungalows”. In other words, buildings that are built in a completely different style and are not aesthetically pleasing. Both are functional for living, but not for the village image. That would be a breach of style with the old architecture. (09×01: The House in the Woods)
Midsomer Conservation Society thinks the planned modern housing will destroy the look of Great Pelfe – and smells a scam: „An out-of-town shopping centre will be built! With parking for hundreds of vehicles together with some low-rent social housings of poor quality, radically and permanently altering the character of our village!“ (13×07: Not in my Backyard)
Linda Wagstaff has lived away from Upper Marchwood in an old railway carriage for 30 years. (03×01: Death of a Stranger)
