Until autumn, think of this more as a gateway than a library. •   A wide variety of music is played in Midsomer Murders. I’m collecting all of it – except for the background score. First, I’ll list all pieces composed specifically for the series, regardless of genre. Then I’ll sort them by genre.   Music composed specifically for Midsomer Murders Agnus Dei (Jim Parker) (01×02: Death of a Hollow Man) NN (‚Find your life / Why should all my love just turn away? / Pretending it’s not needed in my life / And why is love a game. / Even if I show…‘) (07×04: Sins of Commission) NN (‚… banished from our heart is she / Firelight and sing refrain / Vanquish darkness with her name / Evil spirits…‘) (07×06: The Straw Woman) Libera Me (Jim Parker) (08×06: Hidden Depth) Midsomer Rhapsody …

Real-life relatives among Midsomer Murders actors

Do you feel the same way? You watch Midsomer Murders and suddenly think: I know that face – but where from? What many fans don’t realise is just how many actors in Midsomer Murders are actually related in real life – siblings, parents and children, even couples.   Here we go. Note: This table is still a work in progress (last updated 14 September 2025) and certainly not complete, but it’s growing bit by bit. If you know of any other real-life relatives or family connections among the actors, please share them with me. I also plan to add photos of the different actors (where siblings, parents or partners appear), but before that I’ll need to check with the production company whether this is allowed – I don’t want to overstep my bounds.   Janine Duvitski and Paul Bentall are the parents of  Ruby Bentall. -> Janine Duvitski played both ‘Deirdre Tibbs’ in 01×02: Death of a Hollow Man, and ‘Hattie Bainbridge’ in 22×06: The Witches of Angel’s Rise -> Paul Bentall played hotel owner ‘Edward …

The History of Midsomer Parva and Midsomer Worthy

• (Caution: Contains spoilers for many episodes: 01×01 Written In Blood, 02×02: Strangler’s Wood, 05×02: A Worm in a Bud, 05×04: Murder on St Malley’s Day, 07×01: The Green Man, 07×06: The Straw Woman, 11×01 Shot at Dawn, 12×03: Secrets and Spies, 13×01: The Sword of Guillaume, 14×02: Dark Secrets) •   Of all the Midsomer villages, Midsomer Parva in the south and Midsomer Worthy in the west of the county are by far the most historic. As many episodes take place in these villages, a number of historical events have been collected and listed here.

Local Historians & Co. in Midsomer Murders

How are local historians, antiquarians, etc. portrayed and what is their purpose? How are they involved? It’s a simple question to answer: They are either the answer to a question (sometimes even the decisive answer to solving a case), or they are charlatans (and sometimes the murderer with very unsavoury opinions). It also seems that local historians are often presented as the true guardians of knowledge, even if they haven’t studied. This is particularly evident in “Silent Land” (13×04) with the Kent couple. While she is a local historian and provides valuable insights into the history of St Fidelis, her husband is depicted as a character who is overly concerned about the situation. He sits in the pub all day, gets violent out of jealousy, but is an expert on the Tudor Constitution – unfortunately this knowledge is of no use to him. Quite unlike his wife. This page lists all historians, antiquarians, archivists, archaeologists, restorers and museum staff.

The History of Midsomer Villages

• (Caution: Contains spoilers for all episodes until series 24; the information on episode 24×01 contains no relevant spoilers and the information on episode 24×04 is hidden here spoiler markers) •   Having looked at the historic Midsomer villages of Parva and Worthy, there are many more villages where history happens – but often it’s just one event. For this reason, I have decided to use this map of Midsomer County as a guide and place the events in the four cardinal directions.

A List of Public History in Midsomer

Midsomer County is a county steeped in tradition and nostalgia. There are plenty of historians and other residents who care about history, and there’s also public history. This area of historical studies includes everything that conveys history. They occupy a hybrid position between history and memory, which is ideal for Midsomer Murders. There are monuments, museums, re-enactment and traditions in general.
